Wolf is the third studio album by OFWGKTA member Tyler, The Creator. It is scheduled to be released sometime in May 2012.
Tyler first mentioned the album in 2010 saying that he would have an album titled Wolf. In early 2011 he told fans through his Formspring that his third album would be called Wolf and it is scheduled to be released in May 2012. The album will continue Tyler's sessions with his fictional therapist, Dr. TC, as hinted by the title track on his first album, Bastard, in which Dr. TC says "this is the first of three sessions...".
In August 2011, Tyler said that the album will be more focused on beats and have less rapping.[2] He has said that on the album he will try to make music similar to his current interests, which he has said do not contain rapping.
In an interview with DJ Semtex, he confirmed that he will handle all the production on the album, except one song produced by Left Brain.[3] This was how the production on Goblin was dealt with.
In another post on Formspring, he said that Wolf will only have a few rap songs, while focusing mainly on production.[4]
In an interview with SPIN magazine, Tyler expressed wanting to shift away from the themes of his sophomore album, Goblin, stating, "Talking about rape and cutting bodies up, it just doesn't interest me anymore... What interests me is making weird hippie music for people to get high to. With Wolf, I'll brag a little more, talk about money and buying shit. But not like any other rapper, I'll be a smart-ass about it. People who wanted the first album again, I can't do that. I was 18, broke as fuck. On my third album, I have money and I'm hanging out with my idols. I can't rap about the same shit." [5]
On November 16, Tyler returned to the studio for the first time since the 2011 Golf Wang Tour began in September.[6] He also said that he would like the album to be released in May 2012;[7] however, he later said on his Formspring that, "im trying [to release the album in May] but its not gonna happen yo. forsure. i wish. its the perfect may/summer music." [8]
Tyler has said that the album will be made of his favorite beats that he's composed since he was 15.[1] On Formspring he has said that "Annie" and "Secret Garden" will be included.[9] Other potential songs include "Pancakes", and "Herpes and Cupcakes". The song "Llama" featuring Earl Sweatshirt was supposed to be included on Goblin, but was removed due to Earl's mother not giving Tyler permission to use his vocals. Tyler has originally said that it may, however, be included on Wolf.[10] However, since then, Tyler has said that he is not expecting '"Llama" to be on Wolf.[11] In March 2011, Tyler confirmed a song titled "Eat Pussy" featuring Domo Genesis scheduled for Wolf.[12] Also, in July 2011, Tyler confirmed a song titled "Berlin" to be on the album.[13][14] On August 1, Tyler announced the possibility of a track titled "Cow bell" being on Wolf. He described it as having an eerie vibe similar to "Yonkers".[15][16] Later on, Tyler said that there are no official songs for Wolf yet.[17] He has also said he has a beat called "Half n Half".[18] In Dublin, Tyler debuted a new song titled "Tiko".[19] It is currently unknown whether it will be on Wolf. It was also announced that Tyler has a song called "You're Drunk."[20]
